Ephemerals

Assemblage in the Wild

Assemblage in the Wild combines photography and assemblage. Each piece is ephemeral in the sense that once the installation has been photographed its components are removed so there are no remnants of the installation; an artist’s version of a back country leave-no-trace ethic. They are interpretations of themes from mythology, folklore, folktales and oral traditions expressed through a lens of ecological consciousness. This collection, Vasalisa’s Picnic, is the initial phase of a long-term project of creating pieces in wild areas of Maine. Vasalisa is a featured character in Eastern European Baba Yaga tales.
